Prostate Cancer Tests

Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in men and is second leading cause of death amongst men. Early detection can often cure the disease and newer treatments such as Focal Therapy and Robotic Surgery can usually be done as a day-case treatment or with a 1 night stay in hospital. The first steps to finding out whether you have prostate cancer are to get some blood tests including Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) which is produced by cancerous cells and usually also a specialised prostate Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan. Here at London Urology we specialise in these tests and also provide the newest treatments if cancer is found and it needs treatment.

Focal Therapy

This is the newest form of minimally invasive surgery for prostate cancer and requires no incisions (cuts) to be made at all. Using High Intensity Focussed Ultrasound (HIFU) where we heat the cancer cells or cryotherapy where the cancer is frozen we can effectively treat the cancer whilst reducing the side-effects normally associated with traditional treatments such as leakage of urine or erectile problems. Both HIFU and cryotherapy can be given as a day case procedure. Please speak to us if this is something that would be of interest to you.

Robotic Surgery

Using the latest Da Vinci robot our expert surgeons can carefully remove the prostate containing cancer. Patients stay in only one night and are up and about and walking from the day after surgery.

Active Surveillance

For some types of prostate cancers, no treatment is the best treatment. These cancer grow very slowly and can be safely watched with blood tests and MRI scans. Please speak to our experts to see if you are suitable for active surveillance.
